Othello Sword Letter-opener

In the final scene of Verdi’s magnificent setting of Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello, the protagonist uses his own dagger to take his life in anguish over the jealous rage that led him to murder his beloved, the innocent Desdemona. Original image on left.

Our letter opener is a reproduction of the dagger worn by the great tenor Francesco Tamagno when he debuted the role of Othello at the opera’s premiere on the stage of La Scala in Milan in 1887.

24K gold-plate over pewter and brass. Measures approximately 7.5" long.
