Fabergé’s acknowledged floral masterpiece (original image on left), is the fabulous pearl, diamond, gold and nephrite Lily-of-the-Valley Basket, now in New Orleans. This brooch is adapted from one of the blossoms in that basket, which was a favorite possession of the last Tsarina for whom it was created in 1896. The Lily-of-the-Valley was a favorite flower of the Tsarina since it symbolized happiness and martial bliss. Original image on left.

 The early blooming Lily-of-the-Valley was widely esteemed in Imperial Russia for it served as a beautifully scented harbinger of spring, after the long Russian winter (original image on left). The blossom was also associated with conjugal bliss and domestic harmony, making it one of Fabergé’s best-selling flowers. Original image on left. Enameled 24 karat gold-plate over pewter.
