This necklace was inspired by a string of beads in the shape of a “Nefer” hieroglyph (original image on left). Found by William W. Flinders Petrie on an excavation in 1921, it is now in the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology’s Egyptian collection. Original image above.
The charms created for the necklace imitate the shape of “Nefer” sign, which means Goodness and Beauty. These adornments were intended to symbolically transfer such attributes to the wearer.
24 Karat antique gold-plate over pewter, enhanced by Carnelian beads.
Measures approximately 16" (40cm) long.
